9/27/2014 Update: Buffett Song Bar Trivia

The J Bar in the Holiday Inn in Davenport opened Sep 8, and when we and our friends Dave & Robin (rare thing to have company when I add a new bar to my list) hit it for the first time, it was too busy to sit inside.  The patio was heated and very cool, with a fire feature bisecting it.  Unfortunately it was still too cold to hang around too long, so I went back the next day and sat at the bar.  Good food, unique menu, and a $40,000 argon filled wine cooler.  All very hip, and I think will make a really nice hotel bar, but really very corporate. The Field House (same owners as the original one in downtown Iowa City) occupies what used to be Habaneros in North Park Mall.  This place is Hawkeye heaven with its gold and black décor and 20+ flat screens, and the food is good enough to be a draw even on non-football Saturdays.  They opened 9/2, but I didn’t even notice it until over a week later. 1/14/2011 Update: The chase to 400

We were discussing the re-opened Blackhawk Hotel with other members of the Quad City Parrot Head Club (we’re staying at the Blackhawk for the upcoming Havana Daydreaming night at the River Center ), and someone asked what the name was of the restaurant that used to be at the top of the hotel.  Realizing the only time I had been to High Notes we had a drink at the bar while for a table, I added it to the list.  On Wednesday, I hit Charlie’s in Colona, and Brucer’s Dawg House in East Moline , so the list stands at 320.  This means I’m 80 short of my 12/31/2011 goal of 400 QC Area bars.  Plenty of time left; my concern is inventory.  By my count (and I’m hoping to have input from readers in case I’m missing any), there are 57 left: Davenport (37) 3rd St. Bar & Grill Bait Shop Big Daddy's Bix Lounge Blueport Junction Brady St. Pub Chuck's Tap C...

12/28/2010 Update: Last update of 2010

I’ve fallen off the pace a little during the holidays, only adding Montana Jack’s in Moline , Joe’s Place in Colona, and Ruby Tuesday’s in Davenport .  I also somehow found that I’d left the bar at Town & Country Bowl off the list – unfortunately, it had to burn down for me to discover the error.  The count sits at 311; click “The List” above to see them all. Reading this, you might get the impression that I don’t do much other than visit different bars in the Quad Cities Area.  NOT TRUE!  I visit bars throughout the country (and starting to make a dent in the rest of the world)!  Feel a list coming on?  First, a few recollections about some of the places we’ve been.
